Radhi's Realm....

Hi Friends,
This is an Article which is the need of the hour for every Chat Room. Have a look at it. This article is written by Texas and IP. They wish to give the credit to "ehow" website for the first two paragraphs of this article. Read it, Share it and try to Follow it :)

Netiquette

I have wanted to write about a topic that is very close to my heart, namely “Netiquette”. In other words, a set of guidelines that govern ethics and acceptable codes of behavior while you are in a chat room that teaches you to behave in a pleasant and responsible manner.

I have noticed while some follow these guidelines, most are totally oblivious to them, which makes these chat rooms unpleasant. We all come here to have fun, unwind, meet up friends, sing, laugh and basically have a good old time. With this in mind we should be considerate of others, which means treat them with respect, be considerate and don’t infringe on their rights and space and generally try to maintain good will towards all. Civility goes a long way in keeping the chat room from becoming a battlefield.

Here are some guidelines which will make your stay in chat room pleasant.

  1. Avoid using all caps when typing in a chat room. Using all caps is considered to be “shouting” and it is very distractive for others.
  2. Avoid using huge fonts. If we don’t notice you with smaller fonts, we wouldn’t notice you using huge fonts either.
  3. Refrain from using offensive language and abusing others. Profanity never fixes problems. Calling a girl a “figure” or “pigure” is offensive too. Please be more thoughtful.
  4. Please try not to respond to the offensive behavior. This is called “flaming” and it will only make matters worse. To be honest, I have been guilty of this myself and I am trying to change that. Doing so will only encourage them to be more abusive.
  5. Respect fellow chatter’s privacy and protect yours in the main chat rooms. Never ask for personal information and refrain from sharing your own.
  6. Please do not try to get attention by making fun of people you don’t know on the first go. Rather try to be nice and start a decent conversation. Asking a girl/lady/women “are you are figure” is not the way to start a conversation with a girl.

As far as voice chatting is concerned here are some guidelines.

  1. When talking in the main room using a microphone, please give a brief pause before grabbing the microphone again. This gives the people who don’t grab the microphone to come up and speak.
  2. When someone is singing please do not grab the microphone to talk or play songs. Wait a little longer and let the person finish. A full song is only five minutes of less even with music.
  3. When you do get the chance to sing, don’t take advantage of the opportunity and keep singing until you drop. Don’t make the people in the chat room hope and wish they never gave you the microphone in the first place.
  4. When someone is talking on the microphone, please let them finish what they are saying. Interrupting them and hurrying up to talk is agonizingly ill-mannered.
  5. Everyone doesn’t like everyone, but if there is a personal vengeance you have please take it outside of the chat room rather than getting on the microphone and abusing the person concerned. This only disturbs the people who are in the room already.
  6. Please do not check your microphones in the main room. If there is a problem type in the main room and ask someone for assistance. Someone is always there to help. Refrain from screaming “hello” a few thousand times on the microphone.
  7. As soon as you enter a chat room, do not be in a hurry to grab the microphone and introduce yourself. Settle down, type your hellos to fellow people on text then grab the microphone. Some people have the same dialogue and intro music to boot. These are only fun as long as you don’t get on people’s nerves. Remember it takes a while for voice to get activated after you enter the room.
  8. Please do not make fun of someone’s choice of language. I am sure everyone is educated and can understand and speak more than 3 languages at least. Why infringe on others people’s rights and enforce a language, accent or dialect.

Let’s face it; there is no avoiding an argument or a debate in a chat room. There are always going to be disagreements and difference in opinions. The only way to finish an argument is to be calm and composed and finish the argument.

Here are some best practices for a healthy and entertaining debate.

  1. Please state your view is a clear and concise manner. Try not to quote too many examples and keep talking. If you have more than one view to put forward let others talk too and then put forward your second argument.
  2. Listen attentively when another person is talking and let them finish what they are saying. Do not interrupt. Even if the person is wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Butting in and stopping someone from talking only makes you weak and shows that you do not have a strong argument.
  3. Do not hold the microphone and monopolize it by not letting others talk. If you do that it’s not really a discussion or a debate, it’s called a monologue. Further more doing so only makes your view weak.
  4. Please do not try to break an argument and try to calm the person who is talking. Just because someone is talking with a firm voice does not mean that they are angry.
  5. Keep your composure when arguing a point. If you lose your cool, it’s not a debate anymore, it’s a fight.

We all love to hear others sing and some of us enjoy singing ourselves. It’s understood that not all are great singers but we come together as we share a mutual passion for music. Let us not think only the good singers have the license to get on the microphone and sing but it is open to anyone who wants to participate. Let us not delude ourselves into thinking that if the singer is good he or she can just walk in grab the microphone and start singing and continue singing back to back. It is alright to sing back to back if there is no one waiting to sing otherwise it shows you as a self centered glory hog. So try not to be a glory hog.

I am sure this article is going to irk some folks. I suggest you all take a few minutes to read and understand what is being written here. Yes, I do know some of the chatters hate me but don’t let your hatred for me cloud your judgment and deter you from knowing what is right and wrong. Imagine someone you don’t know wrote this article. We all can improve ourselves and we should for then only Chennai 07 will be the heaven that our good friend Aspire intended and aspiring it to be; or else it will be just another dumpy chat room. Now the choice is yours.

The Apt Meaning Of TexasPaint Brush...

I would like to congratulate Aspire for the wonderful site he has set up for us ..Chennai 7 roomies. I appreciate his thoughts and efforts in getting this site up and running. Kudos to you Aspire.

I have been in chat a year now, and have had many ids but no id has ever stirred up so much curiosity and comments as my Texas paintbrush id. Contrary to what people believe Texas paintbrush is not a paintbrush and no you cannot paint with it…and to all those who wanted to hire me to paint their walls or their faces, sorry to disappoint you. This is a wildflower native toTexas. I find it very beautiful, and that could be because I love flowers.. specially the ones that are not commercially cultivated. So there goes the mystery behind my id.

The ID has become famous quite quickly frankly because no one understood it. People thought she was in texas and she paints for a living. Great article texas. Keep it coming.

there are not too many people who have a reason behind wat we "glorify" as ids or identity. if an 'id' is ur identity in the virtual world, i guess... this one seems apt, true to itz words and of coz, as lovely as the lovely lady .....enigmatic as ever.
way to go, girllie....!
